Tom, I have had no problems in over a year with my 9000, my volume of prints is not very high, probably only 500 A4s or so, but I would hate to go back to Epson now.
It works fine with Velvet, just lift the heads to thick paper setting. Canon ink life is as good as Epson standard, but not in the same league (or price range) as the pigment Epson. Print life is fine behind glass. I had a long discussion with canon (and they subsequently did print tests) after some fading issues, but that was for 'in air' prints. There is a print on a sunny wall here which is in a clip frame and is fine after 11months. I notice that they have now improved the "Photo Paper Pro"; it was already excellent. Print time is 1 - 1.5 min for A4. Very quiet. I gather the i9100 is better still, but my 9000 is as good as Epson 2100 and much cheaper to run. My thoughts on these printers is this: Canon seem to continue the same cartridge with a number of printers, the i9100 is at least the third generation to use the current carts. When (not if) Canon bring out a pigment, my guess is that it may be backwards compatible? It would certainly be a nice change from the Epson obsolescence pshychology. Nick WB. Does anyone know how Canon print heads stand up to volume printing? My Epson 1270 has just died having made a guesstimated 1200 prints, mainly A5 mailers. I have heard that the S9000 (and i9100) print heads, though easily replaced, don't last so long. Also how does the transport manage papers like Somerset Velvet Enhanced - need manually feeding like the Epsons, and are Canon's own inksets any worse for fading than Epson's OE inks?
