Hi

For some unknown reason my Mac (G4800/OS9.2) has decided that all downloads
(new Quicktime and Acrobat reader) which previously landed on the desktop in
time honoured manner shall be sent to the VolumeSettingsFolder. This is an
invisible folder on HD which cannot be accessed. Any thoughts anyone?

Hi Mark,

ResEdit, Invisifile and a few other freeware pieces of software will allow you to make the Volume Settings Folder visible, then you can move them back to where you want them. There is no problem leaving it visible, because it does no harm to be visible.

Reset the destination to the Desktop or wherever after this.

I feel it was a bug, as I suffered the exact same situation and like you I had not made any change myself.
