I am scanning at 16 bit, 4000 dpi with "light infrared clean " ( in
vuescan) with 4x scan passing and this takes about 8 minutes running a
G4 500MHZ.

I am lead to beleive that these scan times are greatly reduced with
faster machines, but 6 mins for a 5400dpi scan seems quick to me...

Still looking for a good comparison between the Nikon and the new
minolta.

Anyoe seen one?

Andy

Dear Andy,

I am running a pc machine 2000xp with 1gb of ram at 266mhz. The scanner
is runngin through a usb 2 pci card. I am scanning at 8 bit as there
seems little gain in 16 bit on this scanner ( allegedly larger dynmic
range, duuno how to check this one in comparison to the Nikon) as my
destination files are 8bit and the colours are bang on with auto
exposure turned on in the minolta software. Don't know if vuescan will
be slower or quicker until he release the new version. I have found with
my old scanner that negs do take longer.

Hope that helps

cheers
