If you get a good Spyder you're pretty well off (see later). I tend to think
that skin tones with Optical and PreCal (regardless of which spectro is
used) tend to be a percent or three too yellow, but other than that it's
fine. (If you make a soft-proof to a printer profile this is easily evident,
where as Non ColorVision solutions tend to be more accurate in the skin
tones). However there has been so many, Eh, non "up to par" Spyders sent to
the market that I wouldn't recommend this solution at all.

Go with Gretag's Eye One Display or Possibly a BasICColor Squid with
BasICColor Display (I think the GretagMacbeth Eye One Display works with
BasiCColor display too, so you can upgrade at a later time).
Both are top notch solutions. BasICColor gives you the option to set
luminance, where the Eye One Match software doesn't.

Or if you REALLY want to go to the top of the list consider buying Gretag
Macbeth's ProfileMaker Pro Monitor module.
