I have just been testing out the Kodak 14n and very pleased with what I see
in general terms but although sharpness is as I expect the apparent depth of
field seems a lot less than with film for the equivalent aperture? Is this
all part and parcel of digital photography or am I
losing the plot?

Craig,

Have you checked this on comparable prints, or are you relying on looking at
the VDU at, perhaps, 100% magnification? Depth of field is premised on the
fact that a small amount of blur will pass unnoticed on the print.
Conversely depth of field is decreased if you increase the magnification.

Another possible issue, which we rarely discuss, is inaccurate focus; but
this will produce a very asymmetric distribution of sharpness in the image.
This is likely to be a greater problem for those of us with smaller sensors,
because of the depth of focus is reduced by the need for greater
magnification for the same print size.
