Hello all.

Maybe it is just my ignorance showing up, but I'm throwing this request for
advise and/or alternatives to this doubt I have:

I have been recently testing conversions to BW from RGB camera files in a
two step method, starting with RAW data processed in Adobe Camera Raw,
desaturating the file directly in ACR, making some gross adjustments with
the sliders provided by the plugin and then the resulting tiff file is
fine-tuned via simple (or complex) Channel Mixing methods( most of which I
thank Lee Varis and his tutorials for the training).

Then the question showed up. Is it logical ( as it seems ) to expect a
different result if I start with a wider gamut RGB file ( like PhotoPro or
Adobe 98) instead of using sRGB or Color Match as the choice of Color
spaces for a file which will still "enjoy" further conversion to CMYK before
going to the Press??

And if so, then what would be the preferred color space?? THe one with the
largest color gamut seems to be the logical thing to think, but I would like
to know if this is so, or if this is only a subjective decision involved
and if not, what are your suggestions on this issue.
I can safely asssume prints will run the conversions into Swops or
Sheetfed.

As I am subscribed to Digests, I would like if you can e-mail me off list
for faster pick up of info. I am precisely hours away from starting
conversions to BW of a good number of files to go to magazines
/Posters/billboards and Newspapers and if there is something I can do to
improve my results, I will be more than happy to find out before starting.

OTOH, is this is all pure crap, please let me know just as well.

Thanks in advance
