Hello, I'm in the middle of negotiating for a job... I've sent over examples of files that I've shot on similar jobs using a Nikon D100. The camera produces files with a resolution of 3,000 x 2,000pixels (17MB Tiffs - 8 bit). The client is happy with the aesthetics, but has expressed a concern that the resolution will not be big enough to cover all future (not yet anticipated) uses. He gave as an example 'back of a bus' or 48 sheet poster. (The job I'm being commissioned for is a web site and A4 brochure use !). I feel the technical guy at the agency is playing 'devils advocate' with me - but I don't blame him for that in the slightest. Nothing like 'covering all the bases', eh ? My question is - What's the list opinion on this ? Will 3,000 x 2,000 Nikon D100 pixels do the job ? I can't ask any printer the question, as the question I have been asked by the client is theoretical, and there is no printer in the frame.
I was under the impression that RIPs made a good job of interpolating up for poster production, and that anyway the dpi was very small on this kind of production, which I would surmise will work in my favour. Am I correct ? Many thanks for your advice.
