Hi David ,

It depends on the exact spec of the job. 3000x2000 Nikon pixels will 
probably give you a good 35mm equivalent , or possibly better.Whereas 
3000x2000 pixels off of a high end system using digital lenses will give 
more of a 5x4 result , or 10x8 in multi shot mode. Most press use is 
limited to the 48 sheet poster size , about 50mb , but some jobs require 
higher res , for instance backlit posters or 96 sheet or those requiring 
'photographic output. I suppose that the short answer is the first part 
of the above .It'll be okay if 35 mm would be okay.

I wouldn't depend on RIPs sorting out upward interpolation for you. 
Another thing to bear in mind is that inkjets are amazingly forgiving in 
producing A3 folio prints , but the same files used for these prints can 
often go awry on press.

We have to be careful of what we wish for :-) . Our 54 back has already 
produced one complaint. The client said that our output files were too 
large !
