Hi David , It depends on the exact spec of the job. 3000x2000 Nikon pixels will probably give you a good 35mm equivalent , or possibly better.Whereas 3000x2000 pixels off of a high end system using digital lenses will give more of a 5x4 result , or 10x8 in multi shot mode. Most press use is limited to the 48 sheet poster size , about 50mb , but some jobs require higher res , for instance backlit posters or 96 sheet or those requiring 'photographic output. I suppose that the short answer is the first part of the above .It'll be okay if 35 mm would be okay. >I was under the impression that RIPs made a good job of interpolating up for >poster production, and that anyway the dpi was very small on this kind of >production, which I would surmise will work in my favour. Am I correct ? I wouldn't depend on RIPs sorting out upward interpolation for you. Another thing to bear in mind is that inkjets are amazingly forgiving in producing A3 folio prints , but the same files used for these prints can often go awry on press. Our 54 back has already produced one complaint. The client said that our output files were too large !
