I have a huge favour to ask of you all... or one or two of you at least...
It's a long story which I shall give you a blow by blow account of when it's over but in a nutshell: I bought a new Canon i9100 printer recently. I consider the print quality to be completely unacceptable. I have already had a replacement printer from the dealer and a new print head from Canon but the prints are still no good.
I am seeing horizontal lines across the entire print. Think of a print made onto 'Corduroy'. These lines are very obvious indeed, no lupes required.
I have had a letter from Canon admitting that the original print head was no good but the replacement I am being asked to accept is no good either, the same lines are visible to me.
I have been sending Canon the test print Neil Barstow makes available here <http://www.neilbarstow.co.uk/downloadables/Pixl- CMnet_testimage_A4_ARGB.zip> Neil has confirmed that no lines should be visible across this file. When I print it lines are particularly evident across the B/W stepwedge across the top, to the right of the watch, across the bum on the left and across the spectrum grad at the bottom of the frame.
Canon say that the file is 'poor quality' and that if I printed out one of a better quality I would be happy. Inspecting the Barstow file on screen, I can see no reason why these lines should appear. Indeed, a friend made a print on an Epson 2100 and there were no lines.
But, to be fair, the Barstow file is saved down as a jpg, which obviously will degrade the image, however little.
So, I decided to make my own test file. It's simply a black to white grad next to a spectrum grad. I made this file at the standard A4 size in PShop, at 600 dpi. I made it at this ridiculous size, 100mb, so that I could not be accused of making a 'poor quality file'.
Needles to say, prints from this file also show the lines when made with my Canon printer.
Here's the favour I need: Would one or two kind souls download my file from <http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mailonix/canontest/> (you are looking for 'canontest.tif') make a print on A4 (please don't change the filesize, use PShop 'fit to page') and let me know if you can see any lines across the image? In fact, let me know if you can see anything wrong with the print *at all*. I am expecting a pair of perfectly smooth grads. (Please let me know if this is too much to expect...)
The file is 9mb, broadband users only perhaps...
I would be particularly keen to hear from any Epson 1290s users.
Begging the listmoms' indulgence, I would like comments ON list please, so they become public record.
I appreciate your help. This has been going on for so long now that I am beginning to doubt my own sanity and need some pro backup/opinions.
Is it just me Canon have taken a dislike to or have others fallen victim to their particular brand of customer relations? Let me know on this one as well...
Many thanks! :-)
