Hi Bob - I believe the Coolpix 5400 is an uprated 5000, and I had one of the latter, selling it (rashly) when I acquired an S2 - I miss the Coolpix, because it was a highly useful & attractive camera. It remains one of the few decent digi compacts with a zoom that goes as wide as 28mm equivalent; it's remarkably compact; the large, flip-out, fully adjustable screen is amazingly useful for pics shot at unusual angles or discreet shooting; the quality is really pretty good. Can't remember exactly, but I think I tried a microdrive in mine successfully. Don't know what improvements Nikon gave it, but if I was buying a compact right now I'd get another 5000 like a shot, or else the 5400.
Regards, Tony H
