As I understand it, you cant grab a DVD screen because the signal is sent
direct from the drive to the graphics card, bypasing the CPU, so the cpu
never 'sees' what is showing. The CPU uses a Matte colour (usually dark
green) to tell the GPU where to put the DVD on the screen.

However, if you rip the DVD to another format, AVI for example, that is
stored on the hard disk, you should be able to grab that. This is assuming
the DVD isn't an encoded commercial one. To RIP one of those, you will need
to crack the encryption first and then RIP it, both of which are probably
illegal. Speaking of which, you do have written permission from the
copyright holder for all this, don't you?
