Hi Keith Can I mention Redeye, the photography network? It's not a membership organisation; it's a network, mostly voluntary, with some funding, providing information, opportunities and events for photographers, and actively encouraging participation and suggestions. It's free to subscribe to email and printed newsletters; you pay for the events.
Redeye co-organised the 'Magenta Skies' weekend of digital workflow and colour management last year with the AOP. Next year there are some intermediate and advanced Photoshop workshops planned, and there is currently a series of talks by well-known photographers running - last week, for instance, John Davies related the ups and downs of his year-long affair with an Epson 9600. It also runs discussion forums, creative development workshops and portfolio viewings. There is also a small but growing library of business-related info on its new website at http://www.redeye.org.uk. It's based in North-West England where the events happen, but some of the info on the website is nationally relevant. I couldn't possibly say whether it's any good or not as I helped set it up! Best wishes, Paul Herrmann Keith writes: << As someone who has only been making the majority of their living through photography relatively recently I would welcome opinions on the merits (or otherwise) of joining any of the various professional organisations for photographers in the UK (probably best off list unless directly related to the digital side of things). I'm particularly interested in practical business/personal development benefits vs cost, rather than being able to put letters after my name :-)) >> =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
