I'm using Panther and have had no trouble at all with a LaCie 120gb Firewire (400) external drive. I did download a suggested firmware patch for the Silverkeeper utility that comes with it but you have to install this into classic so I don't understand the benefit of this in OSX?!
Patrick,
You have to install it WITH classic, or OS 9, because thats what the installer is built in/for.
But the patch is APPLIED to the flash ROM Oxford chip in the drive.
Panther addresses the Firewire 800 port differently, than previous OS's have, according to Oxford Semiconductor. Thats another reason why it's also trashing Firewire 400 drives that are being plugged into Firewire 800 ports. (which are backwardly compatible with FW 400)
Wouldn't make sense to have the flash hard drive installer software written/installed in the OS that trashes your hard drive, would it? :-)
Oxford 911 chips are being affected, as well as the 922 chips, apparently.
