Dear List,

As a recent convert to PhotoShop CS, I have followed the thread regarding
performance with great interest. I took all the information on board,
particularly Russell Williams' excellent post, but continue to find that
operating CS is like trying to run through waist deep mud.

Here's the scoop with my workflow:

- G4 Dual 867

- OSX 10.3.1

- PhotoShop CS

- Max RAM used by PS = 95% (have tried varying this lots)

- Cache Levels = 5 (have experimented)

- Efficiency Reading 90-100%, mostly 100%

- Dedicated external LaCie 60GB FW drive, PS scratches to first 4
partitions, each 2GB in size (have experimented with this too)

- Page ins/Page outs usually (0), (0) and never more than one or two

- Files are usually 16bit scans from 5x4 (400MB), soon converted to 8bit

- No other applications running

So, in its current configuration, efficiency is usually 100% but I keep
seeing beach balls (indicating the system slowing up?).

If anybody has any further thoughts on this, please let me know. As much as
I love the new features, it's all feeling a bit costly at the moment
(productivity is down) and I know that PS 7 copes with this workflow very
well...

Best wishes,

JL
