Hi Pete,

You will notice that under Preferences>Plug-ins and Scratch Disks, the user
has the ability to select four volumes as scratch volumes.

As I understand it, once one disk is filled up, PS moves onto the next.  So,
by partitioning a 40GB drive (for example) into four partitions of 10GB, it
works somewhat like a focus limiter on an AF camera - the drive head is
restricted to working in a smaller area, thus speeding up its
reading/writing and therefore the performance of PS...
