Hello,
By way of introduction, I am a free lance photographer in the states and
use both a D100 and S2 Pro.
There was a post about raw files that I felt I must respond to. An
individual wrote that they downloaded the raw files, manipulated them
and then saved them again as raw files to a CD. This is not possible. A
raw file is the same as a negative. It cannot be manipulated and then
stored once again in that raw state.

This is true, it is impossible to overwrite a raw file. However... you can apply image adjustment settings to raw images in Photoshop CS and update the file or batches of image files. Because the raw file can not be manipulated, these adjustments are held in the image cache either in the Library folder or can be saved locally if you export cache. You can also append metadata to raw files. This information has to be stored in a .xmp sidecar file that will be saved to the same folder as the image.
