A much as we know it is a very important subject , and an ongoing problem affecting many of us, a discussion on contract issues with publishers will be far better and more deeply discussed in editorial forums, like the EPUK http://www.epuk.org/ and also, the US Editorial Photographers forum, where Conde Nast is an everyday issue. http://www.editorialphoto.com. BTW, any attempt to deal with giant corporations without the appropriate paperwork and paper trail is doomed and has limited chances for positive outcome. Both EP and EPUK provide lots of free downloadable business forms, available for all photogs involved in editorial photography.
