I was about to ask the same question.  I'm attempting to use 3 550EX 
flashes with my 1Ds as an alternative to lugging around my Elinchrom 
kit.  This requires not only a lot of AA batteries, but a bigger (and 
hopefully faster) charger than the Uniross 4 battery charger I'm using 
at the moment.

In an ideal world it would be good  to find a charger than will take 12 
AA Ni-mh batteries of any type.  But does such a thing exist?  And do 
chargers charge at different speeds, or is that down to the 
type/capacity of the battery?
