Purchased an inverter to run my Powerbook and recharge 1ds batteries while
on the road. Also have hooked it up to a portable power supply consisting
of a car battery for some location work, which worked fine.

Searching on the web and talking with manufacturers and vendors, there's
some question if you'd be better off using a "pure sine wave" model (more
expensive), or the more popular (and cheaper) "modified sine wave". Some
say it depends on how sensitive the device you're powering is.

I purchase the cheaper model, as most people do, and it seems to work fine
without damaging anything, but I might sleep better knowing I had purchased
the "pure sine wave", just to be safe.
