Encode to binhex (.hqx) and strip all extensions. More than one period (extension) is just bad.
If you are using MacOSX and are sending to PC you can use the OSX version .sitx and custom set for PC compatibility (self-extracting for Mac, PC, etc) but I just use the Stuff5 compatibility .hqx - have done so for years. Survives worldwide servers and maintains enveloping. I haven't used the .sitx format. Too new for some clients running Win98/2000 who don't update their systems. I also worked at a service bureau, pc and mac. eMail yourself the file then test it. As a service bureau, if they are running PC or Mac and do not support .sit, .hqx, or anything but .zip then you know they have a serious problem. Even the basic packages of WinZip will unstuff .sit or .hqx. Start looking for another bureau. Expander is a 'free app' for both platforms....at least it was before I moved to China. ;0) >Reg Wilkins wrote: > >I am on Mac G4, OS9.1 and using Outlook Express 5.01. > >This morning I prepared a 4mb image file (A0036D23.tif) which I then dropped >on Aladdin Dropstuff, which resulted in my file name being A0036D23.tif.sit >and sent it to the printer via email. > >They said they couldn't open it. > >I then tried deleting the .tif before dropping it on Aladdin Dropstuff, >which resulted in my file name being A0036D23.sit and sent it to the printer >again. > >They said they still couldn't open it. > >The printers are using Mac, Apple OSX (panther) Mail, and Stuffit Expander >to try to open. > >Sorry, but haven't used this method of delivery very much - could anyone >please point out why it's proving difficult to open? > >Many thanks -- joel johnstone Color Canuck (A lesser-known of the Panyu Qu joels) Panyu, Guangzhou,Guangdong, People's Republic of China 511495 Mobile/SMS: 13060980006 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ# 218603929 MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
