I believe that current UK law dictates that goods must follow the 3 Rs.
Repair,Replace or refund within a reasonable time.(around 2 weeks)
if the goods are still under warranty
I found the  Telford trading standards (01952 202090 )  exceedingly helpful when I had 
a
similar problem in another area
