Hi Folks I'm shooting album artwork for a band and they're doing a series of 'intimate' gigs in variable lighting. I don't know what the venue lighting is going to be like and I'm debating whether I should use my film camera and scan the emulsion in on my Minolta Dimage 5400 or whether I should use a digital body.
I'm just concerned about dark noise because they want moody b&w shots and my experience with digital in this context has not included this requirement to date. While the images are going to be used in the liner notes, the label might want to use them as part of an A3 POS poster design. I'm just worried about a high ISO generating too much noise and destroying the aesthetic of the image versus having grain contribute to the mood. I had to sell my girlfriend into slavery to get my foot in the door on this one (I'm gonna miss her) and it's a make or break job for me with this label so as ever, it's important that I do a damn fine job. I would be very appreciative of any advice (on or off list), I'm Nikon based with a D1X and F100. I thank you.
