You could also put slight shifts in the greyscale down to the monitor hardware, if you cannot adjust the individual rgb guns then the software has more work to do create an accurate and satisfactory calibration and profile and the downside is that you will see this subtle splitting in a greyscale as a result. I had this problem with a lacie which had no individual adjustment on the rgb guns.
