I spent a frustrating 10 minutes on the nikon stand enquiring after the upcoming D2X - they know nothing at all & weren't really interested.
The feeling that your genuine interest is being ignored is always a frustrating one, but then again I don't know why this sort of thing (ie effectively denying the existence of an upcoming new model) should surprise anyone. Quite understandably, Nikon wants to continue selling D1Xs as long as possible. And it would only take one off-guard comment by one of their employees on a trade stand to start a chain of web-based rumours, which wouldn't do sales of their current model any good at all. The D2X is on its way - Nikon has registered the name as a trademark. You can be sure that they're working hard to get it out as soon as possible, particularly now that Canon has upped the ante.
As for trade stand staff appearing rude and indifferent... have any prodig list members ever worked at a trade show? It's a soul-destroying experience. Not an excuse, but an explanation. Even camera manufacturer staff are human beings, y'know...
