I have a 646 which I love but find myself using less and less as most of my
capture is digital these days. To answer your query... I did encounter a
'noise' problem with it fortunately just inside its one year warranty
period. The customer service from The Studio Workshop was fantastic. When
they couldnt fix it on site by replacing the sensor they immediately
supplied me with a replacement 848 and sent it back to Denmark were it was
promptly dealt with and returned to me working perfectly again within 2
weeks. So top marks (although I never did find out what was wrong with it!)

Credit where its due, as they say,
Tim Platt

PS having now tried both, I prefer the design of the 646. The 848 has an
annoying design glitch with the light table... and I'm darned if I can
distinguish the quality of the scans. Both are as good as you could get
anywhere.
