Hi Matt,

oh no here we go again!

Your horizontal band is the same as mine, albeit in a different area. I think it is always there but only visible in underexposed shots or deep shadows. However, the loaned body I got during repair effort no.1 last November (unsuccessful) , didn't suffer from it.

The unwanted colour noise is what comes out of the sensor, as far as I can tell. It was very present in Adobe's camera RAW v1, but much better handled in the CS version. My guess is that C1 is just handling it differently for some reason.

I have seen the vertical lines (occasionally) and I have associated it with oversharpening. That is to say I think it is there sometimes very faintly but have only really noticed it in very sharpened files, which exaggerates the effect. Is there some default behind the scenes sharpening going on in capture one? It does look like there's a fair bit or unsharp mask in there. I think at some settings the pixel size of the sharpening starts to react with any existing noise pattern in the file, and you get a digital version of screen clash moire patterns - ie exaggeration of any regular noise patterns.

The latest on MY horizontal band is radio silence from Canon since the end of january. They seem a bit at sea about this kind of thing.

all the best

Hi everyone

I'm getting a few problems with my otherwise beloved 1DS & wondered if
anyone else has experienced or managed to resolve them...

1. I process Raw files with Capture One DSLR & since upgrading from v1.1 to
v1.2 I've found a lot more "unwanted colour" in dark areas of continuous
tone. It's not fine grain noise, but rather a blotchiness. If you look at
the red channel then you really see what's going on. Reverting to v1.1 is a
problem as it's not compatible with mac OSX 10.3 (Panther).

2. Vertical lines in shadow areas - I think this has been discussed before,
but of course I'd never seen it in my files then, but I've had a few
instances of it recently.

3. Colour horizontal banding across frame seen in dark areas. Red or green
stripes across the entire frame. This isn't random & is is the same position
each time & I've even shot a dark grey card and seen it there.

It's a bit hard to discuss things like this with seeing the images, so I've
put some example files at:
