Regarding problems with noise, bands and cross-stiching patterns 1ds files; you're not alone. There's quite a long thread regarding the problem, and no solution, on Rob Galbraith's forums. Some people have had luck with Canon servicing, other's not. My guess it's just the way the camera captures. Sharpening seems to bring out the patterns even more.
