Hi Dave. 'Assigning' Adobe RGB to all files irrespective of their provenance will cause no end of mayhem. Converting to Adobe RGB where necessary and embedding the Argb profile would be the way to go if one were establishing a workflow where Argb was the chosen 'standard'. However, there are many other issues to take into account when adopting such a standard ,such as the wisdom of expanding smaller gamut rgb spaces , and the problems that may arise when converting from a large gamut RGB space to a very small gamut CMYK space. Because of this , the work we're doing with the publishers etc is striving towards a standard method of file supply as opposed to a specific 'standard' colour space. > >I'm certain this is someones fantasy, but has anyone >else heard of this practise catching on ? The adoption of Adobe RGB as a standard workspace is not a fantasy . It's becoming pretty much a de facto space for many prepress houses that demand RGB , and many libraries are doing the same. Also some packaging companies are adopting an Adobe RGB workflow right up to the date of final press and converting then to the specific profile for the press that they are using on that day , be it in the Far East or Europe etc. They work on the concept of retaining as large a gamut as possible until final CMYK conversion . I'm sure that there will be some response on this list as to the suitability of Argb for this purpose. > >personally I stick with the device profiles, convert >when necessary and work within the specific monitor >space I'm using... Not sure if I fully understand you here ......are you using your monitor space as your working space ?
