You have a few choices and, with new product introduced at drupa this week, you'll
have a few more.

I'll start buy talking as if you were to run out and buy something today.

GretagMacbeth holds a patent on building a device that will read reflective AND
emissive in the same instrument. So in the mainstream product offerings you will only
see a device from them (the Eye-One) that will calibrate your display AND allow you to
profile your printer.

In monitor calibration there's X-Rite/Monaco Optix (good instrument, great software)
and GretagMacbeth Eye-One (good instrument, good software)

In print profiling the Eye-One Pro instrument (combine with software in the Eye-One
Photo or Publish products) is the way to go that won't bust your budget or drive you
crazy with single patch reading.

Now with drupa announcements in mind:

- GretagMacbeth has announced an automated device (the iO) that attaches to your
Eye-One and totally automates the reading

- X-Rite has announced a new product called the "Pulse" that is a lot like the current
Eye-One Pro (no monitor calibration though) and another one that fully automates the
readings (like GretagMacbeth's ICColor). How these will be priced and what software is
bundled is yet to be determined.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Steve
