The biggest difference between iBooks and Powerbooks regarding monitors is that an iBook only supports mirroring. The same data is displayed on both the external monitor and the iBook screen. With PowerBooks, the external monitor can be a true second display (or used in mirroring mode if you prefer). I've had little experience with iBooks but I can't imagine that display quality of the laptop screen itself would be radically different from the PowerBooks. None of the laptop screens calibrate all that well compared to "real" monitors. I've had the best luck with LCD calibration... either laptop or stand alone monitors... using BasICColor display. I currently use the 17inch G4 Powerbook. I only rely on it for color accurate display when connected to an external monitor (Cinema Display)

The eMac display will almost certainly calibrate for color accurate viewing much better than any laptop screen.
