This only gets the greyscale 1600 x 2400 down to 3.75 MB... still over the
3.67 actual size.

This is not about storage media (which never have as much space as they
claim), but about what I assumed to be a linear relationship between
digital images (size measured in pixels) and memory (size measured in
bytes).

I know it sounds trivial, but I was only trying to make a simple, persuasive
explanation for someone, ran into this maths problem, and remembered that I
would lose all faith in my own teachers when they used to say the equivalent
of 3.67 = 3.75 , when it clearly didn't.
