Interesting. Didn't know that.

Photoshop, in the 'image size' window, tells you how big the file should be
(top line) followed by the pixel dimensions.

What really concerns me is why photoshop's figure is less than the figure
from my calculator (using the same pixel dimensions)... and in this case PS
will not have any idea how much RLE may be possible when it actually comes
to saving the file, there are no notes or additional data, and so it should
be a theoretical figure based on pixel size only, and therefore the same as
mine. 

What figures is PS using to calculate file size in the image size window?

By the way... Martin Evening's excellent book was of course my first stop,
but for once i could not find an answer therein.
