Simon,
The problem first occurred with the 10.3.3 combo installer. I tried the
10.3.2 to find where the problem occurred.

I'm using Apple optical mouse and keyboard supplied with the G4. I've tried
a number of different opaque surfaces to see if this was a factor. Sadly not
that easy.

I've a few more things to try. I was hoping that this would be a known
issue.
When the problem is sorted I'll post a summary.
