What was the first 'phone you ever owned? I had one of the first really handportable units the Nokia 101 that was not supplied with a lithium Ion battery. Despite its enormous 8 hour standby time it needed to recharged whenever a socket was available, in the car, on the run, whenever I could I plugged it in and charged it. In six months the standby time was only measurable on scientific equipment!

If you don't condition and discharge anything accept lithium Ion batteries the memory effect takes off. every time you charge it the battery starts to think that that point at which you plug it in is effectively empty, hence why battery life shortens.

I'm still waiting for my 1d MKII to actually show any battery loss in its first week of ownership (which involved card after card of practice shots and four actual shoots), but I'm definately dishcarging it and recharging it from flat in preparation for next mondays job. As I'm still waiting to get a back up battery (silly, I know but I just haven't had the time!)

Hi

The charger that comes with a 1Ds has a battery 'refresh' facility. How
useful is this in real use?
