Photoshop CS Raw Converter has the ability to deal with this issue on a lens by lens basis. You can set and save presets. The problem is highly camera / lens specific and testing is essential. The Canon EOS 1Ds surpasses all of Nikon's offerings which is unfortunate as I am a Nikon boy! Do more reading on the net and you'll find lots of info and some good advise.
