Dear Simon

I think you shoot stock? I find that going back to similar subjects requires a different approach to those who have all their images in consectutive order. My system is now this.

After shooting I download the CF cards onto a laptop ASAP. While these are still loading I open PS CS and open File Browser. I then start typing simple caption info into Simple Text. Like this:-

2000 bluebells Lower Halstock
2036 Exeter
2167 River Dart
2168 Stone wall on Dartmoor near Postbridge
2194 Dartmoor Ponies
2294 Porthleven

From this I can find out that 2000 - 2035 are images of bluebells at Lower Halstock.

After this I mass process the files in C1. On a recent aerial shoot which I am doing now I needed to examine each frame at 100% to eliminate all those with camera shake. Having seen the image at full size I then make a list of the good, the mediocre and the bad. Bad goes in the bin. The good then get processed again to final quality with all adjustments.

At some stage after this. I move the RAW files which have been processed into a folder to match the Tiff files. I then run the file renumbering in File Browser so that my 'keepers' and RAWs which match them have the same basic number. This means that if I ever have to reproccess the RAW I can find it. The mediocre shots will go in named folders and be backed up just in case.

I have decided to keep a prefix A for Analogue and D for digital. Simple really.

I then create a folder for each subject area. I then use IIT software to add Keywords to the Tiffs.

Hope this helps

Bob

Hi all,
I'm going fully digital (capture) shortly and want to get in place some sort
of workflow for file naming.
What I want to do is set up a file naming system where I can trace the
images easily back to raw if needed.
Can anyone tell me how their system is set up?

Regards,

Simon
