Dear All
A new client has recently asked me to take on quite a big job, part of which
entails cutting out a series of relatively straightforward images, each of
which is then to be dropped onto a generated background. There is also a
drop shadow to be placed into the image to anchor the cut out to the
background
In my past experience, this aspect of the shoot has always been taken on by
the agency however in this instance they have asked me to cost this for them
.They say that they will supply the file of the background and want me to do
the post production work and proof out on my iris Iproof. Many of these
shots will be different sizes although will not vary hugely in size.
My questions are as follows
1.On the face of itI can see no real problems in terms of the proofing but i
am concerned that this is actually going to be more labour intensive than
the actual photography and that a lot of the responsibility for the post
production work as opposed to purely the photography is suddenly going to
land on my door! I am also concerned in case their may be an element of this
aspect of the shoot that i have not considered which will cause me
additional headaches/problems. The last thing i want to do is cost and agree
to doing this and find out that it takes twice as long and costs twice as
much as the job it self.
2. As these shots vary to some degree in both shape and size, do i need them
to supply the generated background, which is a simple panel of two colours,
in different sizes or would i simply resize or crop it on system?
3.IVO the above, how do i charge this aspect of the job out? As far as i
can see, the post prod elements are as follows:-
Retouch and cut out the image, probably using paths.
Drop onto generated background.
Apply shadow which i think i shall create by shooting as a separate
capture.
Would i charge PER Element, ie a certain cost per cut out, applying
shadow etc etc. If so what would a reasonable cost be?
4. Am i missing some vital consideration which makes it unfeasible or
uneconomic for me to do this , or on the other hand am i just being a big
wus and making a fuss about nothing??
Any kind words from you digital guru's would bew most gratefully accepted.
Kind regards
Nick
