If you are on a Mac try Art Directors Toolkit

It used to be bundled free with new Macs, but if not it only costs $29. I
think you can demo it for a while if you wish.

You can input your image dimensions, resolution, bit depth, and even colour
mode, and it will give you the file size needed.

It also does a zillion other useful graphic things too.
