OK, try rebooting your Mac, holding down the Option/Alt key. All being well
you should see a window with simple buttons for OSX and OS9, click on the 9
button and press return.

You should now boot into OS9, from there you may be able to mount your
drive. You will, at least, be able to copy the data from it to your
computer. If that works I would advise you try reformatting the LaCie before
you return it, in case it is simply a software glitch.

One other thing, does the LaCie have USB? If so you could always try
connecting via that and see if it is recognised by your Mac.
