I get the 'move' message too which I think is a missprint for 'rename'.
This only happens if I chose a number range which already exists.
Things work fine if the number range does not already exist. However I
notice that 1, 01, 001, and 0001 are treated as the same number.

A file of that name does exist in the folder but I'm trying to

because other file names already exist among the selected files, the

I can understand Photoshop not being able to move/rename a file if that
filename already exists in a folder and the file is NOT selected, but
if the
file is earmarked for change, then surely it should not be treated as a
permanent resident. No?
Not looking for workarounds. Just want to know if I have a problem on
my
machine or if this is a known bug or, for reasons best know to the
programmers, selected files earmarked for renaming are treated as
permanent
residents and not taken out of the equation, even when selected.
