Dear list,

If you an xp user and on broadband, there is a beta version of service
release 2 for xp. You will need to search on google for the link.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/sp2preview.mspx

Here it is. I have installed and it is roll backable to service release 1 if
you need to. I have seen an increase in speed of about 20% in photoshop and
its more stable. Have been running for the past 2 weeks with no problems,
and less than usual, actually none.

So they dropped a mac and pc on a program on channel 5 last night. So there
were some silly speed tests, and the pc won in all of them. The one which is
of most interest to me is when they dropped both and broke them. Ok the main
point was seeing how much to repair. The long and short, you can by spares
for pcs and they fixed for 60. The mac spares were not purchasable from mac
and had to be done by a mac certified reseller. Where they charge 50 and
hour to look at it and 400 + for a new motherboard. Ok this is not a
definative test but one that may sway some on this list. I am not entering
into a yours is better than mine debate, thats silly. It was just
interesting for those who are computer hardware adept that fixing macs
yourself is not possible and a new one is cheaper than a repair.

cheers

Ian Reynolds
