Just at a slight tangent to your thread Jorge, but still related to 
RAW files, there is currently a thread on Jeurgen's D1scussion list 
about a new software converter for RAW files called Raw Magick.

One of the developers has posted an image to dpreview:
I have made a post on dpreview.com which shows one of the things that Raw
Magick does considerably better than most of raw convertors.

Although the current software is for PC, he says that a Mac version 
is on the way and possibly one for Linux too.
