Yeah Shangara, and by the time ( god forbids) that your CF card crashes and
you only did one single shot of one fantastic subject and Murphy gets on the
way and the recovery softare can not salvage one file and that is precisely
THAT one file, then you will ask yourself why in this world you did not make
some other 5 shots of same motif, if that would have taken you just some
extra seconds of your life and some few Mb in your card.

I shoot in digital less than I would be shooting in film, since I can have
the confidence that I already have THE shot in my camera with lots of
certainty, but I keep shooting for redundancy, since I feel a little
paranoid about how reliable can my system be today or tomorrow or the day
after, when I don't know Murphy's planned schedule to visit me.

It's not a matter of having doubts about what I am doing, but about how
safe is my system. So it is an entirely diffferent issue. And by the time
we can have ULTRA reliable systems, obviously the shootings will be very
short in duration.

Actually I still consider myself rudimentary in terms of some technology
issues, since I much rather prefer to use 4 CF cards of 512 Mb than putting
all my shots in one 2 Gig card, so I can cover my back with redundant images
in separate cards, in case of failure.

THere have been lots of artists in the photography world who have made a
conceptual statement out of shooting only one frame of each situation they
shoot. As much as I can respect this attitude toward stardom, I think it is
extremely radical and banal, unless we are talking of "decisive moments",
a'la Cartier Bresson journalist's style, or still life photography, that you
can shoot even in 4x5 or 8x10 using only one sheet of film, with great
confidence ( of course, not without previously burning lots of Polaroid
tests).

In this sense, yo could say it is Polaroid what I am replacing with my
redundant shots. But safety and being precautious is my main guidleine.
