TEST YOUR DIGITAL WORKFLOW!
Well , the original idea was somewhat different.
On pages 14-15 of the July issue of IMAGE we have printed a file that you can now download and view on your systems.
IMPORTANT! When opening the files in Photoshop please select the option Use Embedded Profile (Instead of working space), otherwise this exercise will not work properly.
The file Image_test_print.jpg (1MB) should appear on your monitor as it appears in the magazine. Obviously you should consider the lighting conditions under which you are viewing the magazine when you compare the two!
To add even more interest, you can also download the file Image_test_int.jpg (1MB) which was the actual file sent off to the printer with their definitions embedded. If you view this file (and assuming you been able to see that your monitor isnt lying to you in the first stage above) youll see that the press wandered off considerably from what it was supposed to output and produced a far more saturated result.
This is where the wheels fell off. The original article was meant to be a teaser that would :-
a} form part of a survey.
b) get people thinking about CM and be followed up in a further article.
Instead ;-
a) The piece above that appeared on the AOP website was not by the original author and rather skewed the original intention.
b) Only two people responded to the request in the article for feedback, thus reenforcing the AOP members reputation for overwhelming apathy.
What am I missing here? If the press wandered off (consistently - or is everyone's copy different?) then surely the file won't appear on your monitor like it does in the magazine. Or am I being dense?
Best to have read the original article. Better still to have the magazine in front of you and compare the (importantly two ) files and printed page. Better still to respond to the article so's we can do a follow up and explain what's going on !
Regards,
Bob Marchant.
