Fo a long time I had the slider set to 100% in CS; then 85%; and, now, a mere 70%. This last number because I saw it recommended on the Prodig List .
This means that I have only 957Mb of my 1.5Gb RAM available to CS (usingf Windows XP Home). Not very encouraging when images typically would use 600Mb when they are first opened .
However, that was when the RAM available was 1.13Gb (85%)
When the memory allocation was dropped to 70% (957Mb), exactly the same image used only 225Mb of available RAM and the useage rose more slowly as layers etc are added!!!
Result - proportionately more RAM seems to be available to manipulate the image when less has been allocated to CS in the first place!
Can anyone tell me why?!!!
