I see that this also happens with "Item info" on mounted drives when selected via < View - View Options >. I can empty a drive but it only updates that info when I unmount the drive and then re-mount it.

Neat little script called "Finder Refresher" which works with both folders and also drives as data is being transferred. Have been running it with Mac OSX 10.3.3. without a glitch and cannot detect any slowing of data transfer
