I agree whole heartedly. After our experiences with the last catalogue (if you look at the cover, the pack shots are all wrong - rather embarrassing for an ink & paper manuf.) I have just sent a known test file to the printers with our next one - luckily I have a spectrophotometer, so if I get any gip from the printers, I will have the number to back my point up.

Dear Matt

When you say that the pack shots are all wrong what exactly do you mean? Did you send contract proofs with the job? If so and the printed piece did not match, as appears to be the case from what you are saying, one has to ask the question why was the job accepted.

Measuring differences between your proof and what is printed by another process...is not that helpful, however for checking printing variance through the run it is, but and it would be best to agree a tolerance with the printer at the time of quoting if you want to be on firm ground. What if the printer simply says it's within commercial standards....or that dreaded phrase "good enough" !

Cheers

Richard
