Daniel you can chain aas many computers running OS X as you can afford, and thus use the joint processing power to do the same task. Apple has a free utility (name eludes for the moment) you can download and try out before you buy that rack of Xserves with fiberoptic connectors... > Does anyone have any experience of supercomputers?
