I have seen that have had a few answers so far but there is some aspects
to this I like to share.

1. SGI are based on MIPS processor which means that your primary options
of operating systems are IRIX and Linux. Phase One does not distribute a
version for any of the operating systems at the moment, there are of
course windows emulators for both of the operating systems but then you
will loose the advantage of the faster processor.

2. Digital Alpha is another option but since Microsoft stopped
supporting this platform it is not a viable option.

3. An applications most be written for multiprocessing to take full
advantage of a system with multiple processors. C1 is one of the few
(the only to the best of my knowledge) RAW converters that have full
support for dual processing both on Mac and Windows. Weather or not we
will support quad or even octa processing in the future I can not say.

4. When it comes to large files like the H25 it is in many cases not the
processor that sets the limit, it is how fast you can write memory to
disk.
Try out a Intel P4 3.4GHz Extreme or a P4 3.6Ghz with lots of DDR2
533/800Mhz FSB RAM and a WD SATA 10.000RPM Raptor disk or SCSI Ultra320
15.000RPM disks.
Dual Xeon processors will give you even some more preformance.
This configuration would give you best preformance today (Sorry all Mac
guys, but it would)

5. To start out with distributed computing will cause you ache both in
the head and in the pocket book.

Kind Regards

>Hi,
>I sometimes have hundreds of high res raw camera (phase one H25) files
to convert to high res tif on a DAILY basis and frankly the fastest pc
or mac is >not nearly quick enough to get the job done.
>Does anyone have any experience of supercomputers? I'm not thinking
cray but I am thinking SGI or the likes.
>Any help on this would be grateful.

>Thanks,
