Hi list.

We have just added Extensis Portfolio 7 to the computer this morning and were wondering how many of you use this program on a day to day basis and where's a good place to start?

I have to archive an extensive amount of images from the last 4 years and don't know where to start!!

Should we invest in a huge 1 Terabyte Disk, get all the images on to this and then start from there or is there an easier way?

The advantage of an asset manager is that you don't need to have all of the files you cataloged on line. Regardless of how you archive your collection (CD, DVD, fixed drives), the catalog will tell you where the original files are located.

As far as archiving - look into the carousel CD/DVD retrieval systems which consist of a disc reader and a carousel feeder. This is not as fast as a huge disk array but is cheaper and probably safer. I don't have a brand in mind but have seen one in use at a printer's prepress department.
